MUSLIM PRISONERS REHABILITATION PROJECT
DID YOU KNOW?
FACT 1: Almost 10% of the Prison Population is Muslim!
FACT 2: Muslims form the second highest religious minority in the Prisons.
FACT 3: The Muslim prison population has the highest rate of growth amongst any religious group.
Is Dawah happening in the prisons?
Yes, a little, however, much more is needed. In 2001, the first ever Muslim prison advisor was appointed to oversee the rehabilitation of Muslim inmates. He now employs 107 prison imams but they have little funds for materials and literature.
What have we done so far?
For several years, Al-Jumuah magazine has been providing free subscriptions to prisoners from donations. A few months ago, Al-Jumuah magazine was approached by the HM Prison Services in a bid to help in the rehabilitation of Muslim prisoners. We embarked on a major project, which involved:
- Distribution of 5,000 Al-Jumuah magazines entitled ‘What Islam Stands For’
- Distribution of 6,000 Islamic books
- Distribution of 1,370 volumes of Tafsir ibn Kathir
- Establishment of a free Qur’an distribution programme
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Al-Jumuah magazine already receives numerous letters from prisoners who wish to receive free copies of the magazine, but we cannot always accommodate the high demand. We are now hoping to send approximately 500 magazines* each month.

*This target should give, on average, 1 Al Jumuah magazine to every 10 Muslim prisoners. |
